By: Brew Your Bucha Posted: January 23, 2020 in Kombucha

The clock hits zero, the champagne bottles are popped open, and everyone screams “Happy New Year!”

Yes, the New Year is a great time to celebrate with friends for what’s to come. In fact, many people adopt New Year’s Resolutions to try to improve themselves for 2020. Whether it be trying to get in better shape, be more financially responsible, or learn something new, these resolutions show that we still constantly try to work on improving ourselves.

Today, we’re going list 4 common New Year’s Resolution and look at how you can incorporate Kombucha for your 2020 New Year’s Resolutions.

Top 4 New Year’s Resolutions

1) Drink Less Caffeine

With how many people who rely on a cup of coffee (or several) to see them through the day, it’s not surprising that one common New Year’s Resolution is to cut down on the amount of caffeine consumed. While there are no inherently obvious dangers to caffeine consumption, it’s important to enjoy it in moderation, especially if you’re suffering from a prior heart condition. So, if you’re someone who is looking into cutting down your caffeine intake but still need a boost in your day, perhaps give Kombucha a try.

Now, it’s important to note that Kombucha does contain a very small amount of caffeine from the black tea used during the fermentation process. However, this amount of caffeine is quite low, especially when compared to a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, the many probiotics in Kombucha can serve to jolt your system by ensuring that the proper balance of microorganisms remains in your digestive system.  Thus, if you’re trying to cut down on the amount of coffee you drink daily, Kombucha could be a great substitute to help you get through your day.

2) Start a New Hobby

Another common New Year’s Resolution for many people is to start a new hobby, which is a great way to continue your personal development. While there are many great hobbies out there, brewing your own Kombucha is a relatively inexpensive and simple hobby to begin.  There are a lot of Kombucha brewing supplies out there, but all you really need to start brewing your own Kombucha is some black tea, sugar, a SCOBY, brewing jar, and bottles, which are all available on our shop page.

What makes brewing Kombucha such a great hobby is its simplicity. While it may sound complicated, brewing your own Kombucha is much easier than it sounds and only takes about a five days to a week from start to finish. Moreover, you can show off your new hobby to your friends and family by gifting all the fruits of your hard work. So, if you’re looking to develop a new skill, try your hand at brewing Kombucha. There aren’t many other hobbies that are this inexpensive and simple yet also produce such tasty results.

3) Cut Down on Sugar

Now, the most common New Year’s Resolution is related to health and diet as many want to take the New Year as a chance to live a healthier life. Going to the gym and eating out less are two common resolutions people think of to improve their health. However, a less common health-related New Year’s Resolution is to cut down on the amount of sugar one consumes. This may seem like a simple task, but sugars are hidden in almost every processed food and drink, making it quite difficult to cut down on the sugary stuff unless you’re paying close attention to the ingredients label.

One easy way to cut down on sugar is to replace soda, energy drinks, and sports drinks with Kombucha as it contains a significantly less sugar. As mentioned in the Drinking Kombucha Daily post, a 7.5oz serving of Coke contains 25 grams of sugar whereas an 8oz serving of GTS Kombucha contains 6 grams of sugar, which is almost two-thirds less than the Coke. You can also see similar numbers when you compare Kombucha to drinks such as Gatorade. Thus, Kombucha is a great alternative for those who love these sugary drinks as it still contains that sweet, fizzy, and satisfying taste without all that sugar. Give it a try, and you may realize that you don’t need sodas anymore.

4) Save that Money

It’s no surprise that some people aim to save money after the holidays. Buying gifts for Christmas always puts a dent in your wallet, and that only gets worse if you have to travel somewhere to spend the holidays. Add in all the expenses that come with New Year festivities, and it’s no wonder why saving money is such a popular New Year’s Resolution.

Fortunately, one easy way to save money is to stop buying Kombucha at stores and brewing it at home instead. While the upfront costs of a Kombucha brewing kit may seem like much more than just buying a bottle at the store, you save a lot of money in the long term. A standard 355 ml bottle of Kombucha can cost anywhere between $3 to $5 depending on the brand. While that may not seem like that much, it can really add up over time, especially if you drink Kombucha daily.

On the other hand, brewing your own Kombucha will save you a tonne of money as you can buy your ingredients in bulk and take advantage of the long shelf life of black tea and sugar. Moreover, brewing more Kombucha will create more SCOBYs, allowing you to either give them to friends so they can start brewing or expand your own brewing process. Another advantage of brewing your own Kombucha is that you control every single ingredient that goes into your brew.
